The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP-UAE) has introduced new regulations that allow working mothers to sponsor their children’s residency if the head of the family/father is in violation of UAE residency laws. How Can A Mother Take Over Sponsorship Of The Children?
If a father is found to be in violation of UAE residency laws, the children can now have their residency sponsorship transferred to their mother, as long as she is employed and has a valid residency permit. This is particularly helpful for families where the mother is the primary breadwinner, ensuring that the children can maintain their legal status in the UAE and do not have to face deportation.

The ICP has laid out some essential guidelines regarding this new policy:
- Travel Considerations: If the father wants to travel abroad with other family members, they need to apply for exit permits.
- Handling Violations: If the father is an overstayer or has other legal issues, the family can either leave the country or take steps to fix their residency status, depending on their situation.
- Staying in the UAE: If the children’s residency status needs correction, the employed mother can assist in resolving these issues based on the conditions of her work visa and following the proper procedures.
Important Reminders
Additionally, if the father applies for a new residency visa, the status of family members under their sponsorship will not be revoked. The ICP is encouraging anyone who has overstayed to take advantage of the grace period to correct their status, which will end on October 30, 2024. Don’t forget, that all fines previously imposed on violators before the grace period started on September 1 will be reinstated.
