When Will We Observe Eid Al Fitr?

Al Jarwan attributes this slight delay to the unique challenge of spotting the crescent moon of Shawwal, the celestial event that officially concludes the sacred month of Ramadan, expected to commence on Monday, March 11.
Explaining the intricacies, Al Jarwan notes, “On April 8, Shawwal crescent will be born in concurrence with a total solar eclipse, which means that the moon will not be visible at the western horizon after sunset.” This celestial event implies that the crescent, occurring before dawn, will appear after sunset on Tuesday, April 9, marking the commencement of Shawwal and Eid Al Fitr 2024 the following day.
What Is Eid Al Fitr?
Known as the ‘Holiday of Breaking the Fast,’ Eid Al Fitr is set to follow the conclusion of Ramadan. As the first significant public holiday of 2024, residents of Dubai are eagerly awaiting the official declaration of their well-deserved days off.

Public Holiday Dates – A Potential 6 To 9 Days Off
If astronomers’ predictions hold true and Ramadan kicks off on March 11, Eid al Fitr will likely fall on Wednesday, April 10. Traditionally, the last day of Ramadan is also a public holiday in the UAE, potentially initiating the Eid holiday on Tuesday, April 9. Should this scenario unfold, both private and public sector workers in the UAE could revel in a luxurious six-day holiday. However, if Eid al Fitr is declared a day earlier, on Tuesday, April 9, the holiday spectacle could extend to a glorious nine days.
Eid al-Fitr holidays span from Ramadan 29 to Shawwal 3 in the Islamic calendar. The exact dates are meticulously determined in Dubai through precise Moon sightings. As the days of Eid al Fitr pass, the next anticipated public holiday in 2024 will arrive with Eid al Adha, with a potential four-day weekend.
