Based on current predictions, Islamic New Year 2025 is expected to land on Wednesday, June 25. While the official date hasn’t been 100% confirmed yet (since it’s based on moon sightings), it’s looking likely that we’ll get to enjoy a break right in the middle of the workweek! Both public and private sector workers are set to get one day off, according to the UAE’s 2025 public holiday calendar. So, you might want to start thinking about how you’ll spend that well-deserved break!
Because the Islamic New Year follows the Hijri calendar, which is tied to the phases of the moon, the date could shift slightly. It all depends on whether the current Islamic month, Dhu Al Hijjah, ends after 29 or 30 days. We’ll have to wait a little closer to June to get the official confirmation.
The Islamic New Year marks the beginning of a brand-new year in the Islamic (Hijri) calendar. The day falls on Muharram 1 and for 2025, it kicks off the year 1447. Sometimes called Hijra or Al Hijri, it’s a day that’s both meaningful and festive. While it’s a time for reflection in Islamic tradition, here in Dubai, the celebrations are usually pretty lively too – with stunning fireworks shows, special dining offers, and lots of family-friendly events happening around the city.
So, to answer your question – yes, we will definitely get the day off for Islamic New Year! You will just have to stay tuned to Gulf Buzz to find out the confirmed day, closer to the time. We will also share what are the best things you can do to celebrate the occasion around Dubai!
