What’s The New Policy About?

The Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) has issued a circular for the 2024-2025 academic year, offering parents flexibility in their work hours. This policy is designed to help parents balance their work commitments while attending to their children’s school needs, such as meetings, drop-offs, and school events.

First Day Of School Flexibility

Parents working in the federal government can now adjust their schedules to accompany their children to and from school on the first day. They can choose between arriving late or leaving early, with a total of three hours available, which can be divided between morning and evening.

Support For Parents Of Younger Children

For parents with children in nurseries or kindergartens, the flexibility extends throughout the entire first week of school. They are allowed up to three hours per day to either arrive late or leave early, depending on their needs and the school’s schedule.

Ongoing Flexibility Throughout The Academic Year

The policy isn’t just limited to the first week of school. Parents can also benefit from flexible working hours for other important academic events, such as parent-teacher meetings, graduation ceremonies, and school activities. However, this flexibility is subject to approval from direct managers and must not interfere with the smooth running of the federal entity’s operations.

A Balanced Approach To Work & Family

This initiative reflects the UAE government’s commitment to supporting its employees’ work-life balance, ensuring that parents can be present for their children’s important milestones without compromising their professional responsibilities.
