If you’re a frequent flyer between Pakistan and UAE, say goodbye to the days of constantly re-applying for visas each time – because I’ve got good new for you. The UAE has just expanded their 5-year multi-entry tourist visa service to eligible nationals from Pakistan! Pakistani citizens can now apply for a tourist visa that’s valid for 5 whole years and lets you enter and leave the UAE multiple times without needing a local sponsor or host. Once it’s issued, you’re free to come and go for periods of up to 90 days at a time, during those 5 years. However, it is also possible to extend those 90 days to 180 days at a time. This new visa option is officially listed on the Dubai General Directorate of Identity and Foreigners Affairs website and was recently confirmed by UAE officials.
More than just visas, this move is also about strengthening the relationship between Pakistan and the UAE. Sindh Governor Kamran Khan Tessori thanked the UAE Ambassador to Pakistan, Hamad Obaid Ibrahim Salem Al Zaabi, for UAE’s investment in the region. Both sides expressed support for ongoing development projects.
Until recently, getting a UAE visa wasn’t so easy for many Pakistanis. In fact, some travellers were being turned away, and there were reports of delays and rejections. The reason? UAE authorities had tightened their checks, especially after concerns about some Pakistani visitors engaging in begging or unlawful activities while on tourist visas. In late 2023, Pakistan’s Senate was even told that all travellers headed to the UAE had to be police verified before departure.
Believe it or not, social media had a part to play in all of this too. It was reported that some visa rejections happened because of inappropriate/offensive posts made by Pakistanis on social media. The UAE government didn’t appreciate this kind of behaviour and became more cautious when reviewing visa applications.
Here’s something important to clear up: there is no official ban on work visas for Pakistani nationals. Despite some confusion and delays in processing, work visas are still being issued. As long as applicants meet the usual requirements.
