The UAE has just announced that it’s cancelling overstay fines for Iranian visitors and residents. This decision was made to help Iranians who haven’t been able to return home because of the current regional crisis. Whether someone is in the UAE on a visit visa, residency, or any other type of visa, they don’t need to worry about overstay fines right now.
The Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP) explained that this step was taken because of the exceptional situation happening in the region. Flights have been suspended, airspace has been closed, and many Iranians are stuck, unable to head home. This comes as tensions between Israel and Iran have been escalating since last Friday. It started when Israel launched attacks on military and nuclear sites in Iran, and Iran hit back with missile strikes on Israel. As of Tuesday, the conflict had entered its fifth day.
The decision to waive the fines was made following the directives of President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan. It’s part of the UAE’s ongoing commitment to provide support during difficult times. If you’re an Iranian resident or visitor eligible for this fine exemption, you can register through the ICP’s smart services platform. Or head over to one of their customer happiness centres across the country. Stay safe!
