UAE Announces New National Celebration Day On February 28th – 2025 Public Holiday

A new national celebration day has been announced, and it’s going to mark a new chapter in UAE’s commitment to education! On Monday, September 30th UAE President Sheikh Mohamed announced that February 28th (annually) will now be recognised as ‘Emirati Day for Education’. This day aims to celebrate and honour everyone involved in the education sector, acknowledging their critical role in the UAE’s development. Come with me, and let’s find out together if this means we’ll get one more public holiday in the UAE!

The Significance Of February 28

This date holds historical importance as it commemorates a major milestone for the UAE. On February 28, 1982, the late Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan witnessed the first group of teachers graduate from UAE University. This event marked the beginning of a new era in the UAE’s growth and commitment to education.

Will We Get A Public Holiday?

While February 28th will be an incredible day of celebration, it is unlikely that UAE residents will get to see a public holiday for it. The same can be said for Union Pledge Day (which is celebrated on July 18th), the UAE does not experience a public holiday for this occasion either. However, with Cabinet Resolution No. 27 announced earlier this year, there is still hope that city-based governments may authorise a day off for Emirati Day for Education and Union Pledge Day in 2025. Which we will only find the answer to if we will get to see additional public holidays in 2025 closer to the time.
