Sheikh Zayed Road Closed From 1st To 3rd December For COP28 – Alternative Routes You Can Use

Excitement is in the air as Dubai gears up for COP28 and UAE Union Day celebrations. However, this excitement does come with a slight twist. Dubai’s iconic Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed from December 1st till the 3rd. I know, I know, sounds quite inconvenient, doesn’t it? But don’t worry I’m not just here to deliver this important news to you but also to provide you with alternative routes you can use for these three days. So, here are all the details you need to know before this weekend arrives.

Important Details You Need To Know About The Sheikh Zayed Road 3-Day Closure

RTA has announced that from December 1st to December 3rd Sheikh Zayed Road will be closed – Specifically, the Abu Dhabi-bound stretch, from the Trade Centre Roundabout to the Expo Intersection. The timings of this will be between 7:00 am to 11:00 am. Doesn’t sounds so scary anymore does it?

Alternatives Routes To Save Your Morning Commute

Even though the SZR road closure will not last all day, it doesn’t mean we all don’t have important places to be in the morning, such as the office, for example. So, let’s jump straight into the list of alternative roads you can use for these 3 days in the morning:

  • Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road
  • Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Road
  • Emirates Road, Al Khail Road
  • Jumeirah Road, Al Wasl Road
  • Al Khail Road.

Why The Sudden Road Change?

Dubai’s playing host to COP28, the superstar among climate change conferences, kicking off the excitement on Thursday, November 30. This global gathering has prompted a traffic reshuffle to accommodate the arrival of prominent International dignitaries, delegates, and other influential personnel. COP28 will carry on until December 12th and we are all very excited to see the outcomes of this prestigious and much too important conference.

Travel Smart And Use Public Transport

And while SZR is closed for these 3 days RTA has a pro tip for you: consider hopping on public transportation during this road revamp. It’s not just a suggestion; it’s a friendly nudge to make your commute smoother and more planet-friendly. And for those of you who still plan on driving, keep an eye out for directional signage and updates on smart screens. They will help guide you through these temporary diversions and alternative routes.
