RTA Has Just Increased The Minimum Top Up Fee For Metro Nol Cards From AED 5 to AED 20!

If you’re a Dubai metro frequent flyer, then you need to promise me one thing before you keep reading – you can’t shoot the messenger, I’m just here to tell you the important updates you need to know. Here we go. Starting Saturday, March 1st, the minimum top-up amount for Nol cards at ticket vending machines will increase to AED 20. Previously, you could recharge with just AED 5, but the RTA has now raised the limit. You might feel like slapping your palm to your face, but don’t worry if you stick around till the end I’ll tell you how you can keep reaching for AED 5!

Where The New Top Up Prices Has Changed

If you’re heading to any metro station across Dubai and use the top up vending machine (regular or cash-less), from March 1st onwards you will not be allowed to recharge anything less than AED 20. Which might sound inconveniencing if you’re just there to use the metro for one ride but it’s to ensure a smoother flower of riders at the station. And if you stay up to date with Gulf Buzz, you’ll remember that we reported to you last year the minimum top up fee at ticket office increased from AED 20 to AED 50. Let’s just hope the vending machines don’t follow suit any time soon.

Make Sure You Have Enough Balance

To ride the metro, bus, or tram, you must have at least AED 7.50 on your Nol card regardless of its class (Blue, Silver, Gold or Red). Running low? It’s best to top up in advance to avoid any last-minute delays.

How To Keep Recharging Your Nol Card For AED 5

And now the life hack you’ve been waiting for – there is till a way for you to top up your Nol card for just AED 5. Instead of using vending machines, switch to the Nol Pay app. Not only can you continue making smaller top-ups, but you’ll also enjoy a smoother and more convenient experience than using machines at metro stations. And here’s the best part – the Nol Pay app has introduced Tabby for Nol payments! This means that if you need to make a big top-up, you can split your payment into four smaller instalments over four months. Plus, you can even use Apple Pay for added convenience!

So, if you know you’ll be riding the metro just once that day try topping up your card with the Nol Pay app and that way you can still pay AED 5 or any customisable amount you want.
