When Are The Salik Toll Gates Opening & Where Will It Be?

Starting Sunday, November 24, two new Salik toll gates have gone live, adding to the city’s network and bringing the total number of toll gates from 8 to 10. The new gates, named Business Bay and Al Safa South – here is what you need to know about their positioning:

  1. Business Bay Gate
Positioned at the Business Bay Crossing on Al Khail Road, this new toll gate will impact a major route used by motorists commuting from areas like Sharjah, Al Nahda, and Al Qusais. Al Khail Road is one of the busiest roads in Dubai, and this new gate is expected to reduce traffic on Al Khail Road by up to 15% and on Al Rabat Street by as much as 16%.
  2. Al Safa South Gate
Located between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street on Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Safa South gate will ease congestion for drivers heading toward Meydan Street and Financial Center Street. The gate will help redistribute traffic onto First Al Khail Street and Al Asayel Street, with an expected 15% reduction in traffic turning right from Sheikh Zayed Road to Meydan Street.

The Al Safa South Gate, strategically positioned between Al Meydan Street and Umm Al Sheif Street, is designed to complement the existing Al Safa gate (“Al Safa North”). accordingly, commuters passing through both gates within one hour in the same direction will only be charged once. This integration showcases Salik’s dedication to providing a seamless and cost-effective toll system.

Will Prices Change According To Dynamic Pricing?

Although there were recent rumours about potential changes in toll pricing based on peak and off-peak times, Salik confirmed that no such plans are in place. Each crossing through any of the toll gates in Dubai will continue to be AED 4, with no dynamic pricing scheduled. Any potential adjustments in toll fees would require the approval of the Dubai RTA and the Executive Council.

Will There Be More Toll Gates In The Future?

As for future toll gates, Al Haddad clarified that while there’s no fixed schedule, additional tolls could be introduced depending on future studies of traffic flow and congestion.

So make sure your Salik tags are fully charged!
