New Speed Limit To Be Enforced On Important Road Starting June 4

Unlike Dubai, Abu Dhabi does not allow for a buffer when it comes to speed limits. That’s right, if you didn’t already know – driving in Abu Dhabi definitely does not mean you’re allowed to go 20km/h over the speed limit, it means strictly adhering to the speed limit set for each road. The Abu Dhabi authorities have also released the latest changes to this important road in Abu Dhabi, and here is everything you need to know about it.

What Is The New Speed Limit And For Which Roads?

The authorities in Abu Dhabi have announced a revision to the speed limit on Sweihan Road, specifically from Al Falah Bridge towards Abu Dhabi International Airport. As of Sunday, June 4, the speed limit will be reduced from 140km/h to 120km/h, according to a joint advisory released by the Abu Dhabi Police General Command in cooperation with the Integrated Transport Centre.

The decision to lower the speed limit is aimed at promoting traffic safety, as studies have shown that reducing speed limits can help improve overall road safety. To ensure drivers are aware of the change, signboards have been put up along the road to notify them.

This adjustment follows similar speed limit changes implemented in other key roads in Abu Dhabi and Dubai. In April, Abu Dhabi Police introduced a minimum speed limit of 120km/h on Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Road, and as of May 1, violators of the speed limit face a fine of AED 400. Furthermore, starting from January 12, Dubai’s RTA reduced the speed limit on Dubai-Hatta Road, specifically the sector between Dubai, Ajman, and Al Hosn Roundabout, from 100 km/h to 80 km/h, covering approximately 6 kilometres.

In light of these changes, motorists are strongly urged to watch their speed and adhere to all traffic rules and regulations. By maintaining a safe and appropriate speed, drivers contribute to a safer road environment. Happy and safe driving everyone!
