I don’t know about anyone else, but it feels like I’ve lost days of my life just by being stuck in Hessa Street traffic (insert facepalm emoji here). But it looks like RTA just turned our frowns upside down with the official opening of the new two-lane bridge connecting Hessa Street to Al Khail Road across 1,000 meters! The bridge has already brought some much-needed relief to the traffic in the area, dramatically reducing travel time from 15 minutes to just 3 minutes! Come with me, and I’ll give you all the fab details you need to know.
This bridge isn’t a one-off project – it’s part of a massive AED 689 billion development project reshaping Hessa Street and its surroundings. 4 major intersections are being revamped, including links to Sheikh Zayed Road, First Al Khail Road, Al Asayel Street, and Al Khail Road. Additionally, the plan includes a 13.5km cycling and e-scooter track, giving Dubai residents more eco-friendly transport options.
More sections of Hessa Street are also getting significant upgrades. The road is being expanded from 2 lanes to 4 lanes in both directions. Once complete, it will handle up to 16,000 vehicles per hour, double its current capacity.
The billion Dirham project isn’t only about cars either. A 13.5km cycling track is being designed to support up to 5,200 users per hour, promoting cleaner, greener ways to get around. Stretching from Al Sufouh to Dubai Hills through Hessa Street, this track is perfect for cyclists and e-scooter riders who want to skip the traffic and enjoy the outdoors in a fast and convenient way.
Currently, 54% of the project is complete, and RTA aims to open all intersections by late 2025. As the work progresses, the changes are already making a difference, offering smoother journeys and better connectivity for residents and commuters alike.
