Got Outstanding Traffic Fines in Sharjah? Here’s How You Can Get Them Cancelled

Still haunted by those traffic fines in Sharjah from the prehistoric era of your driving life? Good news, my dear readers: Sharjah’s just dropped a major announcement pertaining to traffic fines and this might be the best news you’ll hear all year! The Sharjah Executive Council (SEC) has officially decided that old traffic fines in Sharjah are getting the boot. That’s right – poof, gone. Deleted. Just like your ex’s number. Curious about what qualifies as ‘old fines’? You’re about to find out – read on!

The Outstanding Traffic Fine Waiver Announcement

This fine-freedom fiesta was announced during a major meeting on Tuesday, 22 April 2025 led by Sheikh Abdullah bin Salem Al Qasimi, Deputy Ruler of Sharjah and Vice Chairman of the SEC. In a nutshell? If your violation is over a decade old and was filed by Sharjah Police, it’s officially ancient history. No interrogations. No receipts. Just unconditional forgiveness.

But before you throw your hands up in celebration and go for a joyride, there are a few details you need to know.

  • You have to apply for the traffic fine waiver
  • It will cost you AED 1,000 (yep, you saw the catch coming, didn’t you?)

But hey – it’s basically buying peace of mind, so why not go ahead and apply for one?

Freebie Club: Are You In?

Alright, this bit makes the whole deal sound even better. If you fall under one of these three categories, you don’t have to shed a single dirham for the traffic fines. Yep, you read that right! That is, if :

  • the owner has been out of the UAE for at least 10 years straight
  • the vehicle is abandoned and the owner can’t be contacted
  • the vehicle owner is deceased, with official verification provided

So yes, if your case involves any of the above, the fine vanishes for free. For the rest of us, AED 1,000 might be a small price to pay to finally wipe that old parking ticket from your record.

This move is part of Sharjah’s broader efforts to streamline records and give residents a fresh start. If you’ve got an old fine collecting digital dust, now’s your chance to make it disappear. Check your traffic history –  it might just be your lucky break!
