In the year 2007, WWF International launched Earth Hour. This initiative encourages people to switch off all not needed electric appliances for an hour to create awareness for nature loss and climate change. On Saturday, March 26, Expo 2020 will participate in Earth Hour by turning down the lights in each pavilion. As part of the Switch Off Parade in conjunction with Emirates Nature WWF, each tent will turn off the lights and be completely black for one minute to commemorate Earth Hour.
The procession will begin at 8:30 p.m. at the Peruvian pavilion and finish at 9:30 p.m. at the UK pavilion. The Dubai Police marching band will guide the procession across the Expo 2020 grounds, during which each pavilion will turn down its lights for one minute. Emirates Nature WWF expects that the data gathered from the event will aid in conservation efforts, and the activity is designed to promote their non-goal profits of protecting 30% of the UAE’s wild regions by 2030.
