The Rules You Need To Know

If you’re zipping around town on an e-scooter or bike, here’s what the law expects from you:

  • Stick to designated tracks only
  • Never carry passengers (in front or behind you – e-scooters are for individual rides only) or loads that will mess with your balance
  • Don’t go against the traffic flow
  • Always wear your helmet and safety gear when riding

Break these rules and you could be looking at fines of up to AED 300.

What Is the New Monitoring Team Here To Do?

Dubai’s newly launched Personal Mobility Monitoring Unit has a clear mission – to make the city’s roads safer for everyone, especially in areas used by cyclists and e-scooter riders. Here’s what this special unit will focus on:

  • Reduce Accidents and Fatalities: The ultimate goal is to bring down the number of crashes, injuries, and deaths involving bikes and e-scooters down to zero.
  • Monitor Violations: Keep an eye on people breaking traffic rules while using e-scooters and bicycles.
  • Ensure Safety Compliance: Make sure riders are following all safety rules, like wearing helmets, using designated lanes, and avoiding dangerous behaviour.
  • Raise Public Awareness: Help the public understand the risks of careless riding and the importance of following regulations.
  • Send a Strong Message: Let people know that authorities are serious about e-scooter and cycling safety – this isn’t just a warning, it’s a real push to prevent injuries and save lives.

This new initiative is here to remind us of exactly that. So buckle your helmet, stick to your lane, and ride smart.
