Dubai aims to promote Hatta as a leading destination and is part of the UAE’s “world’s coolest winter” initiative to encourage exploration of the Emirates. As part of this initiative, Dubai has begun construction on an AED 46 million Hatta Waterfall Attraction. Read on to find out more:
Work is underway on the Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls Project, an AED 46 million attraction at the heart of Hatta’s ambitious tourism drive.
The project, which was announced last year by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Ruler of Dubai. Hatta is an exclave of Dubai located in the Hajar mountains on the border with Oman and has been dubbed “The Highlands of Dubai” in a new tourism campaign. The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (Dewa) is overseeing the construction of the stunning waterfall, but no completion date has been announced.

The Hatta Sustainable Waterfall Project will utilize the slope of an upper dam to create the waterfall, which will be powered by recycled water collected at the end of the stream and pumped back into the dam.
The hexagonal beehive design of the waterfall pays tribute to Hatta’s reputation as a hub for high quality honey. The project also includes recreational spaces and restaurants, connected by bridges crossing the water canal for a picturesque experience for visitors.
Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, managing director and chief executive of Dewa, said: “Dewa is implementing pioneering projects in Hatta in line with the vision and directives of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, for comprehensive and sustainable development all over Dubai, and to transform Hatta into a tourism and investment hub, while preserving its heritage.”
“The Hatta Sustainable Waterfalls project aims to create a sustainable natural environment, in addition to developing the area and turning it into recreational spaces and a tourist attraction in the UAE.
“The idea began with creating a natural water stream aligning with Hatta’s nature. Investment opportunities abound with four oases that have coffee shops, restaurants, and children’s playgrounds, in addition to shops for selling natural honey, local products and souvenirs. The shops will be given as grants from Sheikh Mohammed to the citizens of Hatta to create additional job opportunities and meet the needs of social, economic and environmental development.”
The Dubai Media Office highlighted several new developments in Hatta as part of the Hatta Master Development Plan, including Hatta Souq, a marketplace featuring local farm produce, cafes, restaurants, and entertainment spaces.
In addition, the region’s natural landscape has been enhanced with the planting of over 13,000 indigenous trees and the creation of 11.5km of cycling trails from the Hatta bus station to the Hatta Dam.

The much-anticipated Hatta Beach Project is also in the planning stages, designed as a year-round tourist destination with the Crystal Lagoon – an artificial lake with a beach area and a variety of leisure and entertainment facilities, shoreline activities, and watersports – attracting travelers.
