Welcome to June, that time of year when your sunscreen melts before you do, and the country starts rolling out changes faster than you can say “Where’s my ice cream?”. Here’s everything changing in June, whether you’re flying out, cruising the city, or just soaking in the Eid vibes:
If your idea of thrill was showing up at a vehicle testing centre without an appointment, congratulations, you now have to plan your rebellion. From June 2, Dubai’s RTA wants you to book your car inspection slot in advance via their app or website. After a six-month trial run at Al Qusais and Al Barsha, the pre-booking system is going full throttle. Bonus? It slashed waiting time in half! Still prefer a spontaneous drop-in? You can… for a cool AED 100 extra at 19 centres. But eight centres are strictly appointment-only and no walk-ins are allowed. So plan ahead and book online if you’re heading to these spots: Wasel Arabian Centre & Nad Al Hamar; Shamil Al Adid, Al Muhaisnah and Nad Al Hamar; Al Mumayaz Vehicle Testing Al Mizhar; and Tasjeel Al Tawar and Al Mankhool.
Gone are the days of casually waving your card and gliding into the airport lounge like royalty. Now, you need to download an app, register your card, meet a spending limit, and track your visits. For MasterCard, it’s the Travel Pass app; Visa folks, your path to samosas and silent seating lies in the Airport Companion app. For a step-by-step guide to go about it, check out this article down here before you hit the airport. The rule has come into effect from June 1.

From June 5 to 8, public parking in Dubai is absolutely free (except in multi-level buildings; that’s still paid).
Plus, here’s how transport’s running during the long weekend:
While the rest of the world offers you tiny wet wipes and mystery meals, Emirates is handing out ice cream. Yes, real scoops of mango, chocolate, or even passionfruit sorbet, all served in Terminal 3 from June 6 to July 20 on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Because nothing says “Eid Mubarak” quite like trying to look elegant while chasing melting dairy through the departures gate.
Big news for job seekers! His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi has greenlit 400 new government jobs in Sharjah, opening right after Eid. Top priority goes to those already trained under government human resources programmes. Also launching is a new training programme (July-Dec 2025) with AED 55.8 million budget to help more UAE Nationals gear up for government roles.
RTA has announced this week that front seats in all Dubai public buses are now reserved for seniors, pregnant women, and moms with little ones. It’s all about making public transport safer and more inclusive for those who need it most!
For obtaining a birth or death certificate, don’t go knocking at MoHAP anymore. All services have moved to Emirates Health Services (EHS) now. MoHAP has updated their site and pulled the plug on these services, so make sure you’re checking with the right place.
Great news for Al Warqa residents! A brand-new entry and exit point from Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road opens this week, making your daily commute a breeze. Expect shorter trips (from 20 mins to 3.5!) and way less traffic. This new road can handle an extra 5,000 vehicles an hour.
If you’re the kind of person who starts sentences with “This stock is about to explode!” or ends Reels with “Not financial advice, but…,” then brace yourself, the UAE’s got a new rule with your name on it. The Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA) now requires all financial content creators to proactively register for a licence. That means your crypto rants, forex forecasts, podcast predictions, and investment memes must now be served with a side of official approval.
So, that’s about it – a little bit of policy, a lot of progress, and a giant scoop of strawberry sorbet on top. See you at the ice cream cart!
