Speaking on the occasion of the opening, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed said: “Dubai continues to advance the implementation of infrastructure development plans aimed at enhancing human welfare and catalysing sustainable economic growth. The Dubai-Al Ain Road Improvement Project reflects Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum’s vision for creating the world’s best infrastructure in the emirate. It is also part of our broader strategy to transform Dubai into the world’s best place to live, work and visit as well as strengthen our readiness to meet future needs in one of the fastest-growing cities worldwide.”

The scope of this particular project spans 17km from the intersection of Emirates Road to the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road along the Dubai-Al Ain Road. Roads have been widened from 3 to 6 lanes in each direction along with the construction of six main interchanges & bridges and ramps stretching 11.5 km. On both sides of the road, the project will help more than 1.5 million people who live or work in the area.

During peak hours, it will also reduce commute time on the Dubai-Al Ain Road from the intersection of Ras Al Khor Road to the intersection of the Emirates Road by half, from 16 minutes to eight minutes. It will also alleviate traffic jams that formerly spanned two kilometres. This project will also serve about 25 universities & colleges along with increasing the number of vehicles by double the amount (from 12,000 to 24,000 vehicles per hour in both directions).
