The Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU) conducted its Global Liveability Index 2021 at the start of this year. The factors on which a city is ranked are infrastructure (for example quality of public transport, housing, telecoms and utilities), stability (levels of crime, the threat of terror/conflict), education (private and public access levels), healthcare (looking at the quality of and access to healthcare) and culture and environment (mainly analysing climate, culture and corruption). Though this year, how a particular city tackled the pandemic was also one of the factors.
The top 10 cities this year are Auckland Osaka, Adelaide, Wellington, Tokyo, Perth, Zurich, Geneva, Melbourne and Brisbane. Abu Dhabi was 73rd in 2019 and this year it jumped to 63rd position. This is great news for the UAE capital city as it jumped about 10 positions in two years!
